I try to do little things for people when I see them or think of them, but I've never put a conscience thought to it.
As the holiday season fast approaches, and with it also a season for some that is especially hard, I want to try and find ways to give a bit of a hug.
Here are some of my bigger ideas:
- Adopt a Family. We have done this in years prior and really enjoyed it.
- Toy Mountain - giving new toys to kids that would really love them.
- Good Will - I go through our clothes and toys before the holidays hit and donate what is still in good condition.
- Food Bank - I want to make a conscious effort to pick up food primarily for the food bank when I'm shopping.
- Visit a Seniors Home. I know there are lots of volunteer options over the holidays. I'm going to see what they are.
- Surprise treats in the mail to friends
- Visiting friends we haven't seen in far too long (young and old)
- Actually sending out Christmas cards (I've neglected this for two years... I think it's time).
Do you have any ideas to add to the list?

I have 2 favourite memories. We used to bring Christmas baking to an elderly couple down the road. This was very exciting because I was sent down the road all by myself, and they used to invite me in for hot chocolate, and that was almost as good as coffee, which made me feel very grown up.
Secondly, for years and years and years I made a cherry pound cake for a friend of the family. His wife used to make it, and he didn't have it for 15 years after she died, and then he was talking about it, and I went and found the recipe, and took over making it for him.
It was our thing. He used to love it and be so thankful, and I would tease him that it was not as good as his wife's, so that he wouldn't want to marry me.
I miss those things.
Oh some good ideas there. I am definitely going to try and actually send out Christmas cards this year. I usually write them but not get any further. And some surprise treats.
I want to donate some of my quilts to some of the local hospitals too.
good idea!
have fun with these :)
